Laurinburg, N.C. – The St. Andrews (4-33, 2-16) welcomed the Lees-McRae College Bobcats (22-25, 10-8) from Banner Elk, N.C. for a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon for some Conference Carolinas softball action. The Lady Knights although with home field advantage had problems putting the ball in play subsequently leading to two losses with the first game being 6-3, and the second game 8-0.
Game one showed the Bobcats commanding an early lead while they hit the ball extremely well and limited the Lady Knights to zero runs in the first six innings while they managed to put six runs up themselves. St. Andrews started the bottom of the seventh inning with a deficit of 6-0 and their offense started to click. Both Natalie Whitman (North Tonawanda, NY) and Kim Baird (Lexington, GA) reached on errors giving the Lady Knights runners at 1 st, and 2 nd base. Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, MD) then stepped up and drove a double to right center bring in the first run for SAPC. A few batters later Tiffany Harris (Columbia, SC) stepped to the plate and singled down the left field line driving in two more runs. However, those would be the last scores of the game as the Bobcats forced the last out ending the game in a 6-3 loss for St. Andrews. For the Lady Knights, Tiffany Harris led the way as she batted an outstanding 3-4 and drove in two RBI’s.
Game two proved to be even tougher for St. Andrews as Lees-McRae scored right off the bat giving them an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Knights had difficulty putting hits together, so they failed to bring in runs while the Bobcats scored again in the 2 nd and 4 th ballooning their lead to 3-0 going into the 5 th. The 5 th inning proved to be the worst for St. Andrews as the Bobcats scored effortlessly throughout the inning racking up five runs stretching their lead to 8-0. The Lady Knights with one more opportunity left continued having trouble and could not manage to put up any runs finishing the game with a loss, 8-0.
