Laurinburg, N.C. – The Lady Knights (4-28, 2-14) welcomed the Trojans from Mount Olive College (19-22, 7-5) on Thursday for double-header softball action. The Lady Knights offensive struggles continued as their timing and locating the ball still was not where they would like for it to have been. Mount Olive; however, seemed to be firing on all cylinders as they watched their lead grow in both match ups leading to the eventual sweep of St. Andrews.
Game one both teams started slowly as there were no runs scored until the top of the 4 th inning when Mount Olive caught fire and put eight runs on the board. After, neither team would score again. The Lady Knights only managed to put together two more hits; both being singles, one by Freshman Tiffany Harris (Columbia, SC) and the other from Alyssa Carlson (Chesapeake, VA). The game ended with a Trojan victory of St. Andrews by the score of 8-0.
Game two proved to be more of the same as Mount Olive scored six runs before St. Andrews could put one on the board. In the third inning, the Lady Knights started to get things going as they scored three runs. Megan Soots (Mt. Holly, NC), Becky Brandenburg (Swansboro, NC), and Alyssa Carlson (Chesapeake, VA) all collected an RBI. The Lady Knights hoped their offense would continue to flourish, but it did not as they could not find any more runs during the game. Mount Olive; however, did as they had a huge ten run 7 th inning which led to the final score being a 16-3 Mount Olive win. St. Andrews takes the field again Friday afternoon as they welcome UNC-Pembroke game starting at 4 p.m.
