Laurinburg, N.C. – The Lady Knights (4-26, 2-12) welcomed in the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College (14-22, 8-8) to compete in a double header Wednesday afternoon. St. Andrews had a tough day behind the plate struggling to get things going and went on to lose both games to the Crusaders game one being 5-2, and game two 8-2.
During the first ball game both teams had slow starts with the game not having a run until the third inning when Belmont Abbey put two on the board. The Knights would answer back in the fourth when freshman catcher Megan Soots (Mt. Holly, NC) hit a bomb over the fence bringing in two runs and tying the game 2-2. That ;however, would be the Knights only scores as Belmont Abbey put together three more of their own in the fifth inning increasing their lead to an eventual final score of 5-2.
Game two proved to be another tough one for the Lady Knights as Belmont Abbey would come out and score in the top of the first inning to give them an early lead. The Knights; however, battled back in the second as Tiffany Harris (Columbia, S.C.) took the Crusaders yard with a big homerun bringing in two runs and giving St. Andrews a 2-1 lead. Belmont Abbey then tightened up on both sides of the ball and put up runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings pulling away from the Knights to an eventual 8-2 win.
