Laurinburg N.C. - The lady Knights softball team took the field this weekend in a doubleheader match up against their fellow Conference Carolinas opponents the Barton Bulldogs. It proved to be a tough weekend for the Knights as they were defeated in both games.

Game One: The Bulldogs of Barton struck early and often putting up four runs with five hits in the first two innings. St. Andrews then put on their rally caps and answered back in the third inning by getting on the board after a double hit by Freshman Alyssa Carlson (Chesapeake, VA) drove in a run which led to an error by Barton and Carlson scoring as well. The game was 4-2 with a lot of Softball left. During the fifth inning the big bats of Barton came out as they put up a staggering six runs off of four hits. The lady nights could not battle back from the deficit and subsequently lost the game 10-2.

Game Two: The second game of the doubleheader proved to be a defensive battle as both teams had trouble driving in runs. St. Andrews scored the first blow with a homerun by Freshman Tiffany Harris (Columbia, S.C.) which put the Knights in the lead 1-0 going into the top of the third inning. The Bulldogs battled back putting up runs in the next two innings and continued their solid defense to hold off the Knights and sweep the series. Although the Knights had problems bringing in runs Freshman Alyssa Carlson (Chesapeake, VA), Junior Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, MD), And Junior Lex Cowger (Indian Head, MD) all went a very respectable two for three from behind the plate. The Knights take the field next on Wednesday March 9 th in a doubleheader against Francis Marion starting at 1 p.m.
