Laurinburg, N.C. — St. Andrews Presbyterian College (2-5 Overall) hosted non-conference Salem International University (0-3 Overall) Saturday afternoon collecting two wins off the doubleheader. The Knights rolled to their consecutive victories holding Salem by one run in both games.
SAPC will try and use the momentum from these wins to continue their winning streak as they face-off against Anderson ( Anderson, SC) in their next doubleheader at home on February 20, 2011 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Salem returns to the road Friday, February 18, 2011 as they face-off against Mars Hill College (Mars Hill, NC) at 2:00 p.m.
GAME ONE: St. Andrews 4, Salem International 3
Lady Tiger gained their first two runs in the first inning as Katie Mangold knocked a single to left center, resulting in a run for Linsey Brown and an RBI for Mangold. The Lady Tigers took advantage of an error, fabricating a run for Hayley Willson.
Knight Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, MD) generated two outs in the top of the second, not allowing the Tigers to advance any runners.
Tiffany Harris (Columbia, SC) brought in the first run for the Knights during the second inning off a SAC fly by Megan Soots (Mt. Holly, NC). The Knights continued scoring in the second as Disque smacked the ball to left center producing two RBI, one run each for Becky Brandenburg (Swansboro, NC) and Brandi Hunt (Franklin, VA).
The Lady Tigers and Knights did not see another run until the top of the seventh with an unearned run scored by Lady Tiger Mangold. SAPC worked the final inning constructing three hits. Alyssa Carlson made the final hit for the Knights planting a single in left center bringing Disque home for the Knights first victory of the season.
GAME TWO: St. Andrews 5, Salem International 4
Disque, tossed 14 innings in two games for St. Andrews, helping the Knights squeak out a 5-4 win in the nightcap.
Salem International opened the second game with two runs in the top of the first. Mangold hit a single up the middle advancing Brown, allowing her to bring in the run. McGodnch smashed a single to left center resulting in the final run in the first for the Tigers.
After three scoreless frames, the Knights took the lead for good. Lex Cowger (Indian Head MD) remained patient to obtain a walk, advancing Carlson home. Disque knocked a single to left center advancing Harris home. Becca Knott (Jacksonvill, NC) kept an eye on the ball to advance on a walk, while bringing in Soots, this gave the Knights the lead with their third run of the game. SAPC kept the runs coming in with Brandie Hunt (Franklin, VA) pounding the ball to left center picking up a single, while allowing Knott and Disque each to acquire one run.
The Lady Tigers followed up in the top of the fifth achieveing two unearned run by Wison and McGoldnch. The Knights maintained their lead and neither team was able to produce any runs the remainder of the game, leaving the Knights with the victory.
