Wingate, N.C.— The Lady Knights (0-4 Overall) went on the road for their first away game of the season against Wingate University. Host Wingate Lady Bulldogs (2-0) rolled to a 3-12 win in the first game. St. Andrews Presbyterian College was unable to pull off a win in the second game losing 0-10 in Tuesday’s softball doubleheader.
The Knights will look for their first win as they host a doubleheader against Salem International on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 1 p.m. and 3p.m.
Wingate holds the home field advantage again as they look to keep their winning streak against Francis Marrion Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE: Wingate 12, St. Andrews 3
St. Andrews made all three runs in the first. Kimberly Baird (Lexington, GA), Alyssa Carlson (Chesapeake, VA), and Megan Soots (Mt. Holly, NC) gained the base from walks off Wingate’s pitcher Brittany Blackenship (Midlothian, VA). Baird scored off a wild pitch, as Tiffany Harris (Columbia, SC) doubled to center field bringing Soots and Carlson in to score for the Knights. Harris was the only Knight to gain two runs batted in. SAPC ended the first with 1 hit 0 errors and 1 left on base.
Lady Knight’s pitcher Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, MD) faced four innings, out of 24 at bat only nine hits were made manufacturing 12 runs scored, yielding only two to be earned.
Wingate follows up the Knights first half matching SAPC by bring in three runs for the Bulldogs, allowing Ann Sautter (Scottsdale, AZ), Maureen Sandidge (Sarasota, FL), and Brittany Barrineau (Stony Point, NC) each a run. Wingate held the first down with two errors.
The Knights strong scores in the first would be the only runs the Knights could seem to find during the game. Allowing the Bulldogs to gain 4 runs consecutively in the second and third. Leaving the game to five innings with the last run brought home by Bulldog Joya Wortham (Creedmoor, NC).
GAME TWO: St. Andrews 0, Wingate 10
Disque tossed 4.2 innings of the second game for the Knights; she saw 25 batters permitting ten hits, while dispensing three strike outs. Knight Harris slammed a single down the line to add the only hit for SAPC in the second game.
Wingate collected one run off Sautter in the first and two runs in the second. The Knights acquire the third out in the second leaving three Bulldogs on base. SAPC held the Bulldogs to zero hits and runs in the third. WU came out in the fourth obtaining three hits and runs. The game ended in five innings, but permitting the Bulldogs to gain four more runs in the last inning.
