PEMBROKE, N.C.—Sophomore starter Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, Va.) tossed her third complete game for St. Andrews Presbyterian College in less than 24 hours but West Virginia State University continued its strong play en route to a 9-1 victory Sunday afternoon in the final game of the inaugural UNCP Invitational.

Sophomore Kaitlin Harris (pictured), along with classmate Ashley Disque, were named to the UNCP Invitational All-Tournament Team on Sunday for St. Andrews.

The Yellow Jackets finished the tournament with an impressive 3-1 record after scoring nine runs on nine hits in the finale. The Lady Knights (0-4) dropped all four games in its first competition of 2010.

Disque and sophomore classmate Kaitlin Harris (Acworth, Ga.) were both named to the UNCP Invitational All-Tournament Team. Disque hurled three complete games (18 total innings) in an approximate 20 hour span to earn her All-Tourney honors. Harris had half of the Knights extra-base hits this past weekend with a pair of doubles. Harris was second on the team with a .364 slugging percentage and had two of SAPC’s seven RBI to validate her All-Tourney selection.

West Virginia State scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and rode the momentum to the eight-run victory in six innings. Junior Margaret Osborne, who had a two-run single in the first, led WVSU going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Brittany Hyatt added a pair of doubles and three runs scored.

Freshman Kelsey Lorraine (2-0) picked up her second win of the round-robin tournament holding St. Andrews to just three-hits in the 6.0 inning complete game. Lorraine registered six strikeouts and did not allow an earned run.

The Knights scored their only run in the third inning. Disque led off with an infield single and advanced on second on a throwing error during the play. After Disque moved over to third on a groundout, sophomore Lex Cowger (Indian Head, Md.) plated Disque with a single to center.

WVSU slowly built up its lead scoring two runs in the third, fifth, and sixth. SAPC was held without an extra-base hit for the third straight game.

Disque (3-0) was charged with the loss allowing nine runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks over six innings. Disque had one K.

St. Andrews next visits Southeast Region foe Wingate University (Wingate, N.C.) for a non-conference twin bill on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
