LAURINBURG, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College’s home softball doubleheader against Conference Carolinas rival Mount Olive College was rained out on Thursday. The Trojans led 5-4 after 1 1/2 innings in game one before play was halted. After a 27-minute delay, the game was called. It has not been determined if the doubleheader will be rescheduled.
Mount Olive (17-16-1 overall, 7-5 Conference Carolinas) scored four runs in the top of the first as Morgan Whaley walked with the bases loaded and Robbin Kennedy followed with an rbi-single through the left side. Allison Czerski added a two-run single with two outs.
St. Andrews (14-19, 4-6) answered with four runs in the bottom of the first. Junior Kailee Munden drove in three runs with a bases-loaded triple and scored on a groundout.
Jessica Velasquez led off the top of the second with a single, went to second on Kat Cahoon’s sacrifice, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Kelly Minshew’s single to center.
Shortly after Trojan pitcher Anna Turvin completed her warm-up tosses to start the bottom of the second, the umpires conferred with both coaches and halted play at 3:37 p.m. After viewing a second storm system approaching on radar, the game was called at 4:04 p.m.
Thursday’s statistics will not count towards individual or team season stats. If the doubleheader is rescheduled, game one will start from the beginning.
St. Andrews is at home this weekend for a pair of non-conference doubleheaders. The Knights play host to nationally 26th-ranked Georgia College and State Saturday, then entertain St. Augustine’s Sunday. Game time both days is 2 p.m.
