LAURINBURG, N.C.—Junior Sarah Applegarth (Gainesville, Ga.) picked up her 10th win of the season and helped out her own cause out by going 3-for-3 from the plate as St. Andrews Presbyterian College defeated Lees-McRae College 7-1 in the second game of Monday’s Conference Carolinas softball doubleheader. LMC won the first game 3-0.

St. Andrews junior Kailee Munden (pictured) had a single in both games against Lees-McRae on Monday.

The Lady Knights snapped a five-game skid in the nightcap as they maintain a 14-19 overall record and a 4-6 league ledger. The Bobcats maintain 16-12 overall and 4-4 conference records.

Junior Kailee Munden (LaVerne, Calif.) was the only SAPC player to hit safely in both games. Sophomore Jasmine Dobbin (Pikeville, N.C.) connected for her fourth home run of the season in the finale.

St. Andrews hosts league foe Mount Olive College on Thursday at 2 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday but was moved back one day due to the inclement weather forecast.

GAME ONE: Lees-McRae 3, St. Andrews 0
Box Score; Play-By-Play

Junior starter Amanda Dodson (Walnut Cove, N.C.) toss a complete-game shutout and Lees-McRae benefitted from a pair of St. Andrews errors in the top of the seventh scoring three unearned runs to take the opener, 3-0.

Dodson (9-3) had a game-high five strikeouts over seven innings while SAPC freshman starter Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, Va.) was equally impressive not allowing any earned runs over seven innings of work. Both Dodson and Disque allowed just three singles to their respective opposition.

Sophomore Anna Carter (Hurdle Mills, N.C.) led off the decisive seventh inning with a single and later scored from second base on a throwing error on a ground ball. The Bobcats later added two more unearned runs on a dropped popup.

GAME TWO: St. Andrews 7, Lees-McRae 1
Box Score; Play-By-Play

Applegarth only scattered four hits over seven innings and did not allow an earned run in her 10th victory as St. Andrews rolled to a 7-1 victory in the second game. Applegarth (10-6) had three strikeouts and zero walks in the complete game. Applegarth also had a team-high three hits including a two-run double in the sixth.

The Knights grabbed a quick lead in the first inning and never looked back. Dobbin drew a walk; stole second base; and eventually scored on junior Danyell Marquez’ (Riverside, Calif.) team-high 13th double of the season. Dobbin doubled up the Royal Blue & White lead with a solo home run in the third inning. Dobbin smacked her fourth long ball of the season over the right-center field fence.

Lees-McRae cut the deficit in half with an unearned run in the sixth on a RBI-single by junior Nicole Baxter (Denver, N.C.) but St. Andrews pulled away with five runs in the bottom of home half of the sixth. The Knights loaded the bases on consecutive singles by Marquez, Munden, and freshman Lex Cowger (Indian Head, Md.) to start the surge. Marquez scored the first run on an error before Munden and Cowger both scored on a deep double to the center field fence by Applegarth. Senior Dani Ghramm (Hayden, Idaho) capped the rally with a pitch-hit RBI-groundout that plated Applegarth.

SAPC ripped a total of nine hits in the nightcap including six off Bobcats sophomore starter (Whitney, Texas), who took the loss allowing five runs (three earned) over 3 2/3 innings.

Dobbin was 2-for-3 from the batter’s box while swiping her team-high 17th and 18th stolen bases of the season.
