HARTSVILLE, S.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College softball team opened up Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday at Coker College and earned a split against the defending regular season champions. The Cobras (11-10 Overall; 3-2 Conf.) won the first game 2-1 but the Lady Knights (10-12; 1-1) bounced back with an 11-3 victory in the second showdown.

Freshman Kaitlin Harris (pictured) scored twice for St. Andrews in the Knights 11-3 victory over league rival Coker College on Thursday.

Junior outfielder Morgan Farroll (Newton Grove, N.C.) drove in three SAPC runs in the Knights victory while stealing a base in both games. Sophomore shortstop Jasmine Dobbin (Pikeville, N.C.) had a team-high three hits on the day.

The Knights junior corner infield duo of third baseman Danyell Marquez (Riverside, Calif.) and third baseman Brianna Shurtleff (Colton, Calif.) continue to produce hits for St. Andrews. Marquez extended her hit streak to 13 games while Shurtleff has hit safely in seven straight after they each had hits in both ends of Wednesday’s twin bill.

St. Andrews will continue league play at Pfeiffer University (Misenheimer, N.C.) on Thursday at 3 p.m. in a rescheduled doubleheader from March 1.

GAME ONE: Coker 2, St. Andrews 1
Box Score; Play-By-Play

Marquez had a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning and was the potential game-tying run for St. Andrews in the Knights final at-bat but sophomore leftie Sydney Greenwalt (Edwardsville, Ill.) entered the game and ended the threat with a strikeout as Coker won the close one-run battle.

Greenwalt was credited with her first save of the season while senior starter Shelly Catlett (Orangeburg, S.C.) picked up her eighth win of the season. Catlett (8-6) held the Knights to just three hits in 6 2/3 innings of work while striking out nine.

SAPC freshman starter Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, Md.) went the distance by was tagged with the loss scattering seven hits. Disque (3-8) had one strikeout and did not allow a walk.

Junior third baseman Anna Oswald (Lexington, S.C.) provided Coker with all the offense they needed with one-run double down the left field line in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Sophomore leadoff hitter Haleigh Rogers (Ward, S.C.) was a perfect 3-for-3 including a triple in the fifth. Rogers scored both of the Cobras runs. Sophomore Ashley Coleman (Charleston, S.C.) had a pair of singles and a sac bunt in her three plate appearances.

Farroll was hit by a pitch and then stole second to lead off the top of the seventh before scoring the Knights only run on Marquez’ single up the middle.

GAME TWO: St. Andrews 11, Coker 3
Box Score; Play-By-Play

St. Andrews used three big innings to pull away from Coker in the second game, 11-3, and earn the split in its first conference doubleheader of the season. The Knights took the lead with three runs in the third and pulled away with four runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh.

SAPC scored 11 runs on 11 hits but also took advantage of four Coker errors that led to five unearned runs.

Sophomore shortstop Jasmine Dobbin (Pikeville, N.C.) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI. Dobbin highlighted her big game with a two-run triple to left field in the fifth inning and a double in the seventh.
