LAURINBURG, N.C.—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College softball team ripped six doubles en route to a 12-3 victory (5 innings) over Davis & Elkins College in the second game of Thursday’s NCAA Division II softball doubleheader after suffering a close 9-7 loss in the opener.

Eight different Lady Knights had a hit as SAPC maintains a 6-10 overall record. The Senators (1-10) picked up their first win of the season.

Sophomore Jasmine Dobbin (pictured) stole three bases against Davis & Elkins to increase her season-total to 10.

The SAPC junior duo of Morgan Farroll (Newton Grove, N.C.) and junior Danyell Marquez (Riverside, Calif.), along with freshman Kaitlin Harris (Acworth, Ga.) all had three RBI. Marquez ripped three doubles and sophomore Jasmine Dobbin (Pikeville, N.C.) supplied three singles.

The Knights were aggressive on the base baths swiping a perfect 14-of-14 bases including three stolen bases by Farroll, Dobbin, and junior Sarah Applegarth (Gainesville, Ga.).

St. Andrews will next play five games in the 2009 Francis Marion University Softball Tournament at the Freedom Florence Softball Complex in Florence, S.C. The Knights face Lenoir-Rhyne University (3 p.m.) on Friday; Mansfield University (11 a.m.) and Tusculum College (1 p.m.) on Saturday; and Lander University (11 a.m.) and Salem International University (1 p.m.) on Sunday.

GAME ONE: Davis & Elkins 9, St. Andrews 7
Box Score; Play-By-Play

St. Andrews rallied and tied the game with three runs in the sixth inning but Davis & Elkins scored two runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead and pull out a 9-7 victory in the first game.

Farroll crushed a two-run double in the left field gap to cap the Knights scoring and deadlock the score at 7-7. However, the Senators put the first four batters on base in the seventh inning with two eventually scoring to earn their first W.

Dobbin had two of the Knights six hits while Applegarth reached base safely three times with a trio of walks. Marquez had an RBI-double in the fifth and Dobbin had a run-producing single in the sixth.

Freshman starter Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, Md.) suffered the loss allowing nine runs (seven earned) on 13 hits. Disque had three strikeouts. Sophomore counterpart Britne Bacca fanned eight batters in the complete-game victory.

GAME TWO: St. Andrews 12, Davis & Elkins 3 (5 innings)
Box Score; Play-By-Play

St. Andrews took out its frustrations in the finale jumping out to an eight-run lead in the first inning and coasting to the 12-3 victory in five innings (NCAA run rule). The Knights ripped 10 hits including six doubles.

The first five batters for St. Andrews both reached base and scored to start the bottom of the first. Harris, the Knights leadoff batter, had a pair of doubles in the opening stanza including a bases clearing, three-run two bagger to cap the eight-run outburst. Harris totaled three RBI in the nightcap.

Marquez had two doubles and drove in two to increase her team-high RBI total to 17 on the year. Senior Megan Riggs (Hubert, N.C.) had a two-run double in the fourth to complete the Knights scoring. Farroll, who had a double in both games, and junior Nicole Bailey (Lumberton, N.C.) each knocked in one SAPC run.

Applegarth picked up her fifth win of the season and helped her own cause with a two-run single in the first. Applegarth went the distance giving up just one earned run while striking out four.
