Official Conference Carolinas Press Release
LAURINBURG, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College’s Sarah Applegarth (5-7 overall, 0-0 conf.) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas softball Pitcher of the Week during week four in the 2009 season.
Applegarth, a junior left-handed transfer, continues to provide St. Andrews with a strong arm on the mound in her first season with the Knights. The junior picked up a complete-game victory in her only start of the week.
Applegarth only allowed one run against local arch-rival UNC Pembroke as St. Andrews took the finale 3-1, ending a 12-game losing streak against the Braves. Applegarth also pitched two shutout innings of relief in the opener to finish with a sub-one ERA (0.78) in nine innings pitched.
The Gainesville, Georgia, native leads the Knights on the mound with an impressive 4-2 record and a 3.27 ERA and 22 strikeouts.
Applegarth and the Lady Knights next host a pair of non-conference doubleheaders this week including Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday and Davis & Elkins College on Thursday.
