PEMBROKE, N.C.—Junior Kailee Munden (LaVerne, Calif.) had a two-run single in the first inning and classmate Sarah Applegarth (Gainesville, Ga.) made it hold up tossing a complete-game as the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s softball team defeated local arch-rival UNC Pembroke, 3-1, in Tuesday’s finale at LRA Softball Field. UNCP won the first game, 7-3.

The Knights move to 5-7 overall while the Braves stand at 5-11.
Sophomore Jasmine Dobbin (Pikeville, N.C.) had a team-high three hits for SAPC while Munden and junior Danyell Marquez (Riverside, Calif.) each finished with two RBI. Dobbin has hit safely in 10-of-12 games to start the year.
Sophomore pitcher Whitney Landwermeyer picked up her third win while junior third baseman Jelena Shaw launched her second home run of the season in the game one victory for UNCP. Landwemeyer (3-5) pitched seven complete innings giving up three runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in helping lead the Braves to their fifth victory of the season. UNCP’s Candace Evans was credited with the game two loss; allowing three runs on six hits, walking two and striking out two batters. Pembroke could not put hits together in the second game, scoring only one run on eight hits.
Applegarth (4-2) earned the game-two victory pitching seven innings and striking out one. Freshman Ashley Disque (Prince Frederick, Md.) got the loss in game one giving up seven runs (three earned) on seven hits with three walks.
St. Andrews will square off against Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer University on Sunday in a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. The two-game set with the Falcons will be the first conference games of the season for SAPC.

In game one the Knights posted three runs in the top of the first, scoring two runs on a Marquez double to left and another on a senior Megan Riggs (Hubert, N.C.) single to right-center. UNCP would get on the board in the bottom half of the first when Shaw blasted a shot to left-center with a runner on third to cut the Knights’ lead to one at 3-2.
UNCP exploded for five runs in the fifth, tying the game on a Morgan Patrick triple to left scoring a runner from third. The Braves would then take the lead on a SAPC error, allowing Patrick to score from third. Landwermeyer would pitch four shutout innings after the Braves’ big third to preserve the win for the Black & Gold.

Game two saw the Knights get on the board in the top of the first once again, this time scoring two runs in the opening frame. Munden hit a single to centerfield to plate two runners to give SAPC the early advantage. In the top of the third, Applegarth drove in run on a single up the middle to push the Knights advantage to 3-0.
UNCP got on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Randi Pruitt singled to right-center, but the Braves would not be able to add any more runs on Applegarth’s pitching, falling to the Knights in seven.
