FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.—Sophomore Morgan Farroll (Newton Grove, N.C.) drilled a three-run home run in the top of the seventh inning in Saturday’s second game to propel the visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College softball team to a doubleheader sweep of non-conference Fayetteville State University by scores of 7-2 and 5-3.

The Lady Knights improve to 13-32 while riding their current four-game win streak. The Broncos fall to 14-14 on the season.

SAPC unleashed 16 hits against FSU while senior starters Samantha Stewart (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) and Mika Tanji (Honolulu, Hawaii) combined for 18 strikeouts in the pair of victories.

The Knights trailed the Broncos 3-2 and were down to their last out in the nightcap when Farroll crushed a three-run homer over the left-center field fence to lift St. Andrews to the victory. Farroll’s game-winning blast was her second home run on the season.

St. Andrews won the opener 7-2 behind a dominating pitching performance by Stewart, who held the hosts to just two runs on four hits. Stewart picked up her ninth victory of the season while registering a season-high 13 strikeouts.

Tanji drove in three runs for the Knights in game one. Sophomore Brianna Shurtleff (Colton, Calif.) added two RBI and classmate Daisy Mendez (Miami, Fla.) provided one RBI. Freshman Jasmine Dobbin (Pikeville, N.C.) and sophomore Nicole Easter (Lumberton, N.C.) each had two hits.

Stewart gave SAPC a 2-1 lead midway through the finale with a two-run single in the fourth but Fayetteville State regained a one-run lead, 3-2, with two runs in the sixth before Farroll’s heroics. A pair of singles by Dobbin and Tanji started the seventh-inning rally before Farroll stepped into the batters box.

Senior Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) and Stewart each had two hits in the second game.

Tanji earned her fourth victory of the season on the mound pitching a complete-game. Tanji fanned five Broncos.

Stewart, Haugen, and Dobbin all had three hits on the day.

St. Andrews wraps up its regular season on Monday when they host local non-conference foe UNC Pembroke at 3:00 p.m.
