LAURINBURG, N.C.—Sophomore Brianna Shurtleff (Colton, Calif.) had three hits on Tuesday including the game-winning walk-off RBI-single in the eighth inning of the first game as St. Andrews Presbyterian College swept non-conference Claflin University. The Knights (3-19) won the opener 4-3 in eight innings and the finale 8-0 in five innings.

Seniors Samantha Stewart (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) and Mika Tanji (Honolulu, Hawaii) both pitched complete games en route to the victories on the mound for SAPC. Stewart tossed all eight innings in game one allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out eight batters. Tanji posted her first complete-game shutout scattering just four hits over five innings in the nightcap while fanning seven.

The Knights jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opener with a pair of runs in the first. Senior Ashley Shurtleff (Colton, Calif.) had an RBI in the first. St. Andrews continued to lead 3-2 on a junior Tiffany Capone (Jacksonville, N.C.) sacrifice fly in the fifth. However, the Panthers forced extra innings with a solo home run in the seventh.

In the first extra frame, freshman Jasmine Dobbin (Pikeville, N.C.) was placed on second with the international tiebreaker rule. Tanji followed with a single and Claflin decided to intentionally walk Capone to load the bases with no outs. B. Shurtleff then ended the game with a single that plated Dobbin.

B. Shurtleff continued her strong play into the second game going a perfect 2-for-2 as SAPC eight-run ruled the Panthers in just five innings.

The Knights scored three runs in the first and five more in the second. Tanji and Capone each had an RBI during the outburst while sophomore Nicole Easter (Lumberton, N.C.) and Dobbin both scored twice. St. Andrews only had six hits in the nightcap but the Knights batters were patient at the plate drawing 10 walks.
