SALISBURY, N.C.—The Catawba College softball team collected 18 hits en route to a 4-0 and 14-2 doubleheader sweep of visiting non-conference St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Sunday afternoon at Whitley Field.

The Lady Indians improved to 5-1 on the season behind a five-hit, complete-game shutout by Meghan Cobb in the first game and a two home run performance by Erin Witalison in the second game.

Senior Erin Haugen (Ft. Mill, S.C.) and junior Tiffany Capone (Jacksonville, N.C.) led the winless Lady Knights (0-8) with three hits apiece. Capone drove in one of St. Andrews two runs in the finale.

Sophomore Brianna Shurtleff (Colton, Calif.) provided the other Knights run with an RBI single in the first inning of the nightcap to give SAPC an early 1-0 lead. Haugen led off the game with the Knights only extra-base hit of the day, a double in the right-center gap, and later scored on Shurtleff’s single.

Catawba rolled to the 12-run, five-inning victory to complete the twin bill sweep by scoring five runs in the first and eight more in the third. Indians starter Tiffany Farley earned the win allowing one run on six hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Cobb blanked St. Andrews in the first game, scattering five hits over 7.0 innings while striking out three. Senior Mika Tanji (Honolulu, Hawaii) had a pair of singles for the Knights in the opener.

Senior Samantha Stewart (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) started both games for St. Andrews. Stewart posted five strikeouts in the two appearances but was tagged for the loss in each contest.

St. Andrews returns home and hosts non-conference Newberry College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. before beginning Conference Carolinas play on Sunday when they entertain Anderson University at 2:00 p.m.
