April 3, 2007

THOMASVILLE, N.C.—Samantha Stewart of St. Andrews (13-25-0 overall, 3-11 CVAC) has been selected as the NCAA Division II Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) women's softball Pitcher of the Week during week number eight in the 2007 season.

Junior transfer Samantha Stewart helped St. Andrews Presbyterian College increase its season-best win streak to six games after going a perfect 3-0 in three appearances this past week. Stewart opened up the week with a perfect outing against St. Augustine's College. Stewart retired all nine batters she faced in her three innings of action including six strikeouts as the Knights cruised to the 9-0 five-inning victory. Stewart was not done for the day as she came in to pitch with SAPC trailing 6-0 in the second game against the Falcons. Stewart got the Knights out of the second inning by forcing a double play and then kept St. Aug's scoreless as St. Andrews rallied back and won 14-6. Stewart had four more strikeouts for 10 on the day en route to her second win of the afternoon. Stewart capped the week with her third victory as the Knights defeated Chowan 8-2. Stewart had two strikeouts in six innings while only scattering three hits. The Ft. Pierce, Fla., native did not allow an earned run all week in 11 2/3 innings of work giving up just four hits while fanning 12 batters.

St. Andrews will travel to non-conference UNC-Pembroke on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
