LAURINBURG, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian Collegefreshman Lauren James (Bahama, N.C.) completed the doubleheader sweep of Glenville State College by pitching a complete-game, no-hit shutout in the second game. SAPC defeated Glenville State 6-5 in the first game before taking the finale 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Knights, winners of four of their last six games, improved to 6-18 overall and will visit CVAC foe Limestone College (Gaffney, S.C.) on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

St. Andrews won a nine-inning marathon in the first game, 6-5, behind a 12-hit attack. The Pioneers took an early 2-0 lead but the Knights catapulted into the lead with a three-run second. SAPC looked to hold onto the slim 3-2 lead but the visitors tied the game with a late run in the seventh sending the game into extra innings.

Glenville State regained the lead with a run in the top of the eighth but the Knights once again rallied back as a junior Samantha Stewart (Ft. Pierce, Fla.) single scored classmate Mika Tanji (Honolulu, Hawaii).

The Pioneers once again took a one-run lead with another run in the ninth but SAPC was determined not to give up. After senior Devane Rushing (Monroe, N.C.) was placed on second (international tiebreaker rule) and freshman Kailee Munden (LaVerne, Calif.) walked and stole second, GSC looked to get out of the jam by recording the next two outs. However, down to their last out Tanji hit a scored both Rushing and Munden with a single to center field to end the contest.

Stewart garnered her third win of the season pitching all nine innings while striking out eight. Sophomore Brittni York (Indian Trail, N.C.) and junior Ashley Shurtleff (Colton, Calif.) both ripped two hits apiece to tie Rushing and Stewart.

James tossed the complete-game no-hitter in the nightcap as St. Andrews coasted to the 7-0 victory. James faced just two batters over the minimum while striking out four. James’ impressive day was also her first collegiate win.

SAPC scored its seven runs behind four hits, six walks, and three Pioneer errors. Sophomore Dani Ghramm (Hayden, Idaho) led the Knights attack by driving in two runs. Rushing and junior Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) also had RBI in the second game.
