MISENHEIMER, N.C.—Sophomore Brittni York (Indian Trail, N.C.) and senior Devane Rushing (Monroe, N.C.) each collected four hits on Wednesday, but host Pfeiffer University swept the CVAC opener over St. Andrews Presbyterian College by 9-3 and 4-2 scores.

York also added two runs and an RBI on the day for the Lady Knights (0-10 Overall; 0-2 CVAC).

Stephanie Brandt led the Lady Falcons (5-5 Overall; 2-0 CVAC) with four hits (including a double and a triple), two runs scored, and an RBI. Dacia Ijames added four RBI’s on a triple and a home run.

Pfeiffer jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first game and scored three more runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to pull away for a 9-3 victory.

SAPC scored its three runs with one tally in fourth, fifth, and seventh. A freshman Brianna Shurtleff (Colton, Calif.) triple plated the first Knights run. After a freshman Kailee Munden (LaVerne, Calif.) single and a sophomore Dani Ghramm (Hayden, Idaho) double, junior Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, S.C.) drove in Munden in the fifth. St. Andrews final run came after Munden was hit by a pitch; Ghramm drilled her second double of the game; and York scored Munden with a single.

The Lady Falcons once again took an early lead in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the first and adding one more in the third. Trailing 4-0, the Knights rallied back with one run in the fourth and one in the seventh but fell just short of completing the comeback.

Munden supplied a one-out, bases-loaded single in the fourth to put St. Andrews on the scoreboard. York, who scored on the play, started the inning with a leadoff single and a stolen base. Pfeiffer squeaked out of the inning with a huge double play.

Freshman Morgan Farroll (Newton Grove, N.C.) provided the Knights final run in the seventh. After drawing a walk and advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, Farroll scored on a Falcon error.

St. Andrews will host two doubleheaders this weekend. The Knights battle non-conference Newberry College on Saturday and entertain CVAC rival Lees-McRae on Sunday. Both twin billings are scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. first pitch.
