FLORENCE, SC—Senior Amme Mason (Georgetown, CA) had five runs batted in including a two-run home run while pitching 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball to lead St. Andrews to a 10-5 victory over Benedict College on Saturday during the Patriot Invitational at the Freedom Florence Softball Complex.
The Knights notch their first win of the season and improved to 1-12 overall. SAPC dropped its first two games of the Francis Marion hosted event on Friday, falling 10-5 to Catawba and 1-0 to Lander.
With St. Andrews holding a 9-5 lead in the fifth against the Lady Tigers, Mason relieved freshman starter Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, NY) and allowed just one hit while striking out one as the Knights secured the five-run victory.
Dobmeier allowed five runs over 4 1/3 innings of work to earn her first collegiate victory.
Mason drove in five runs and belted a home run for the second straight day. Mason, who has a team-high three homers on the year, hit a two-run shot against Catawba on Friday before belting her two-run bomb on Saturday.
Sophomore Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, SC) had a perfect game from the plate going 4-for-4 with three run and two RBI. Junior Devane Rushing (Monroe, NC) followed going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Rushing also connected for her first home run of the season.
Mason, sophomore Mika Tanji (Honolulu, HI), freshman Dani Ghramm (Lake City, ID), and freshman Liz Windham (Wartrace, TN) all collected two hits apiece for SAPC. Ghramm had a double while crossing home twice. Tanji also scored two times while also collecting an RBI.
St. Andrews will play Chowan College in its next three games. The Knights conclude play at the Patriot Invite with a 9:00 a.m. showdown with the Braves before returning home and hosting Chowan for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.
