Queens softball takes two from St. Andrews

February 27, 2006

Game 1; Game 2

CHARLOTTE, NC—Senior Bet Smith (Lexington, SC) and freshman Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, NY) drove in the Knights only runs, as Queens University of Charlotte defeated visiting St. Andrews 8-2 and 8-0 in CVAC softball action on Monday.

Sophomore Mika Tanji (Honolulu, HI) walked and stole second base with one out in opening inning of the day. Dobmeier plated Tanji with a single for the Knights first run of the game to take an early 1-0 lead. It ended up being the only lead St. Andrew would have during the double dip.

The Lady Royals, who were picked second in the 2006 CVAC Preseason Coaches Poll, went on to score eight runs on 14 hits in the first game.

The Knights other run came in the fourth when Smith scored Dobmeier with a single. Dobmeier and senior Amme Mason (Georgetown, CA) led off with back-to-back singles. Mason had a game-high two hits.

Dobmeier had two strikeouts for St. Andrews in the complete game effort.

QUC continued to swing a hot bat scoring eight runs on 12 hits in the nightcap. Tanji kept St. Andrews close only allowing one run over the first four innings but the Lady Royals exploded for two runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth to pull away.

Tanji and sophomore Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, SC) had the only hits for SAPC in the second game.

St. Andrews softball takes a week off before returning to action in the Francis Marion Tournament in Florence, SC, on March 10-12.
