Game 1; Game 2

SALISBURY, NC—The St. Andrews Presbyterian College softball team hit the road for the second straight day, this time to play a rescheduled doubleheader at Catawba College. The Lady Indians (2-2) spoiled the non-conference trip with 8-2 and 6-3 victories over the Knights (0-6) on Thursday at Whitley Field.

St. Andrews travels to the western part of North Carolina this weekend. The Knights battle Mars Hill College (Mars Hill, NC) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Lenoir-Rhyne College (Hickory, NC) on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Game 1

Catawba jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opener on a three-run, first-inning home run by Ryann Baker (Rockwell, NC). The blast to left-center field was Baker’s second of the season.

After freshman Dani Ghramm (Lake City, ID) and sophomore Erin Haugen (Fort Mill, SC) singled in the third, junior Devane Rushing (Monroe, NC) cut the Knights deficit to 3-2 with a two-run double in the right-field gap.

Catawba broke the game open in the fourth with a five-run frame.  Lizz Dunkman (Festus, MO) started the scoring with a two-run single and Jacqueline White (Mt. Ulla, NC) capped the inning with a two-run double.  Ashlee Rhoades (China Grove, NC) was the only player to enjoy a multi-hit game in the opener with a single and a double.

Lady Indian starter Linday Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) had eight strikeouts in the complete game. Knights’ freshman starter Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, NY) went the distance but took the loss.

Game 2

Catawba jumped in front in the opening inning of the nightcap with two unearned runs. A Tammy May (Fairmont, WV) RBI-single extended the Lady Indians lead to 3-0 in the fourth.

Dobmeier drove in Haugen for SAPC’s first run with a single in the fifth.

A two-run single by Dunkman in the fifth and a Cassie Markham (New Port Richey, FL) run-producing double in the sixth extended Catawba’s lead to 6-1.

The Knights made a late rally in the seventh. Haugen led off with a bunt single; sophomore Mika Tanji (Honolulu, HI) followed with a double down the left field line; Rushing plated Haugen with a sacrifice fly; and Dobmeier drove in Tanji with single up the middle.

However, Ettinger got the next two Knights to ground out to record her second straight complete game. Ettinger (2-1) fanned six in the finale.

Dobmeier had three hits for the Knights while Tanji took the loss on the mound.
