Box Score

Aiken, SC- It was an exciting day for SAU Men’s Soccer. Scoring the first goal of the game, the Knights maintained a lead for almost 40:00 minutes. After nearly 80:00 minutes of play, the St. Andrews men found themselves at a 2-1 deficit and pushed for a comeback. Michael Mutebi (Entebbe, Kampala, Uganda) took the Knights to a final score of 2-2, after two overtimes.

Taking a total of 13 shots, St. Andrews (3-12-1 Overall) worked hard to keep up with the USC- Aiken Pacers (3-8-4). Mutebi, Alex Smith (Winston-Salem, NC), and Nowell Worley (Hope Mills, NC) each took three shots at the Pacers. Getting things started for the Knights, Worley worked his way into the box and grabbed a corner kick from teammate Patrick Stewart (Crawfordville, FL) and sent a header into the back of the net.

Corey Francis (Greenville, NC) saw 110:00 minutes this evening and grabbed 10 saves from USC- Aiken. Chinedu Arinze and Carson Villa each fired a shot into the net past Francis, giving the Pacers a 2-1 lead. The Knights hard work never ceased. Pushing until the end, Mutebi stayed focused and kicked a loose ball by the keeper to tie the game 2-2. After two overtime periods, neither team scored and the regional competition ended in a tie.

The Knights will play their last game of the 2011 season this Saturday (October 29) at Coker College in Hartsville, SC. The men will play at 4:30 PM, following the women’s game that is scheduled at 2:00 PM.
