Laurinburg, NC-
A rather cool day for soccer, the St. Andrews men played a tough game against visiting Limestone College. For their last home game of the 2011 season, the Knights played their hardest, but could not put the ball in the net, despite several close attempts. After 90:00 minutes of play, the Saints came out on top with a final score of 2-0.

Playing strong defense, the Knights (1-8 Conference, 3-12 Overall) fought-off the Saints (6-3, 10-5) for nearly 30:00 minutes; protecting the box and keeping the opposition from overpowering their defense. Jorge MacKenna, a Limestone freshman, put the first point on the board in today’s game. MacKenna found himself in the perfect spot to receive a cross across the box from teammate Sam Orritt and send a header shot straight into the back of the net. Corey Francis (Greenville, NC) worked hard to grab nine saves in today’s Conference Carolinas game.

Late in the game, Bryce Ziada blasted a ball by Francis to end the game with a final score of 2-0. Limestone keeper Kyle Karagitz pulled down three saves as the Knights tried to even the score, with several Knights attempts just missing the frame by flying wide or high.

SAU men’s soccer will appear at USC-Aiken on Wednesday, October 26. The Knights and the Pacers will battle it out to see who will emerge victorious at the 6:00 PM, weekday game.
