Brevard Tornados Rip Past Knights 1-4October 15, 2011 Box Score Brevard (2-11-1 Overall) started the game by posting the first goal of the game at the 6:25 minute mark. Felipe Mendonca got around the St. Andrews defense and blasted the ball by keeper Corey Francis (Greenville, NC). Francis got his gloves on fourof the Tornados shots, but was unable to stop three of the powerful shots. Putting another goal on the board for Brevard, Mendonca found the net once again twenty minutes later. Starting the second half at an 0-2 deficit, the Knights tried to keep their heads up and play hard. Twenty minutes into the second half, the men of SAU watched Tommi Rasinmaki shoot a ball that ricocheted off the post and fell into the goal, giving the Tornados a 0-3 lead. Finally, Senior Dennis Schardt (Bethesda, MD) found himself in a position to get a pass from teammate Nowell Worley (Hope Mills, NC) and put a ball by Brevard keeper Pauli Jussila, who grabbed two saves from the Knights. Unable to slow down the Tornados, SAU saw Brevard score one more time on their way to a 1-4 victory over St. Andrews when Marcelo Betcer blasted Brevard’s fourth goal. Knights keeper Andrew Pelfrey (Mount Airy, NC) was unable to get his hands on Betcers’ shot, but earned one save after entering the game for the final thirteen minutes of play. Men’s soccer will have the home field advantage on Monday, October 17 as they host Newberry College at 4:00 PM on Knights Field in Laurinburg, NC.
