Charlotte, NC-
The St. Andrews men’s soccer team traveled to the Harrisburg Road Soccer Complex in Charlotte, NC, today to make up their previously postponed game against the Pfeiffer University Falcons. Taking a 1-0 lead in the second half, the Knights were the first to score in the Conference Carolinas dual. However, the Falcons swooped in at the last minute and scored two goals, leaving the Knights with a 1-2 loss.

As a result of today’s loss, the Knights move to 1-8 in conference and 2-10 overall, while the Falcons took their first conference victory and now stand at 1-6 in Conference Carolinas play and 2-10 overall.

Giving SAU a lead after a scoreless first half, Michael Mutebi (Entebbe, Kampala, Uganda) stole the ball from Pfeiffer and charged the goal. Facing the keeper 1-on-1, Mutebi blasted the ball by Zach Liles, who earned three saves while in goal for the Falcons. The Knights took a total of four shots at Liles, with Scott Ashbridge (Hazlet, NJ), Brendan Duncan (Monroe, NC), and Patrick Stewart (Crawfordville, FL) each taking one shot on goal in addition to Mutebi’s shot that got by Liles.

Pfeiffer replied to Mutebi’s goal after fifteen more minutes of play. Fahret Salihovic sent the ball just inside the right post, leaving Corey Francis (Greenville, NC) unable to stop the shot. While Francis pulled down four saves from the Falcons, he could not seem to get a handle on Salihovic’s shots. After 70:00 minutes of play, Salihovic found himself squared up for a shot once again and sent a rocket by Francis, giving the Falcons their second and final goal.

Taking a break from conference play, the Knights will travel to Brevard College (Brevard, NC) on Saturday, October 15. The guys will suit up and man the field for a 4:00 PM start time on Saturday.
