Knights Battle Trojans until the EndSeptember 20, 2011 Box Score The SA men (0-4 Conference, 1-6 Overall) came out strong, holding Mount Olive (1-1, 1-6) to a scoreless first half. The Trojans built up their energy during the 15 minute break and returned to the field determined to win. Scoring within 12 minutes of each other, Ramon Gallardo and Alex Rodriguez put the Trojans on the board by scoring one goal each. Despite these two goals, Freshman Corey Francis (Greenville, NC) managed to save 8 of the 11 shots that the Trojans booted at the posts; taking him to a season total of 54 saves. With only seven minutes of play remaining, Entebbe, Kampala, Uganda native Michael Mutebi managed to get around the MOC defenders and give the Knights their only goal of the game; drilling the ball past Trojan keeper Kyle Lavender, who earned three saves. Two minutes later, Stan Smith responded to Mutebi’s feat and scored the Trojans final goal, giving Mount Olive their first Conference Carolinas victory of the season. Look for the Knights again on Saturday, September 24 as they host Erskine College’s Flying Fleet. Play will begin at 4:00 PM, following the women’s soccer game that will start at 2:00 PM -GO KNIGHTS- |
