Garton named to All-State men's soccer team

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Junior Justin Garton (Germantown, Md.) was selected to the 2007 NCCSIA North Carolina All-State College Division Men’s Soccer Team on Monday.

Junior Justin Garton represents St. Andrews Presbyterian College after recording a school-record 15 goals and 32 points for the Knights. He had a hat trick against Coker College, posted five multi-goal games and led St. Andrews to an 11-6-3 record. Garton was also a 2007 Conference Carolinas All-Conference Second Team selection.

Fourteen student-athletes representing six institutions were selected to the fifth annual North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State soccer team released Monday.

The team consists of students from NCAA Division II and Division III colleges and universities throughout the state. North Carolina sports information professional’s submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the teams. The all-state unit consists of one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards. Students involved with ties in the voting are included on the squad.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports information.

NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Over 500 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
