St. Andrews men's soccer ranked No. 4 in NCAA Regional Poll

LAURINBURG, N.C.—In the first publicized NCAA Division II men’s soccer regional poll, the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s soccer team is ranked No. 4 in the Southeast Region announced by the men’s soccer committee Wednesday.

The Knights, who have been regionally ranked all season in the NSCAA/adidas polls, will look to maintain one of the top-four spots in the NCAA poll for postseason consideration.

SAPC, boasting an 11-4-2 overall record and a 9-3-1 ledger against Southeast Region opposition, only ranks behind nationally ranked No. 2 Lees-McRae College, No. 13 Clayton State University, and No. 22 Lander University. The two other teams ranked behind St. Andrews in the poll are Conference Carolinas foes Pfeiffer University and Queens University of Charlotte.

The Knights, who are riding a three-game win streak, are still seeking their first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The 36th annual Division II Men’s Soccer Championship begins on November 8-9 at campus sites TBA while the eventual finals being played at the City of Orange Beach Sportsplex (hosted by University of West Florida) on November 30 and December 2.

“We are excited to be ranked fourth in the region and to have the potential opportunity to represent St. Andrews in the NCAA Tournament,” said fourth year head coach Stevan Hernandez. “Hopefully, the guys can give us a great effort in our last couple games to possibly reach the NCAA Regional’s.”

St. Andrews visiting No. 20 nationally ranked Wingate University in non-conference action on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. and then concludes the regular-season with a Conference Carolinas showdown at Belmont Abbey College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

“I am pleased with our student-athletes performance, dedication, and commitment to the program as we look to finish strong this year and then continue to build for future years,” concluded Hernandez

The top-four teams in each region earn a bid to the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament. The top teams in each region, with records through October 21 are listed. The final regular-season poll will be published October 30 and championship selections will take place November 5.
