LAURINBURG, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College scored four first-half goals and coasted to a 5-0 shutout of visiting Chowan University in a non-conference men’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon during Knights Fest 2007.

Junior Justin Garton (Germantown, Md.) scored the bookend goals for the No. 4 Southeast Region ranked Knights to increase his team-high total to 14 goals. Garton broke the school record of 13 goals in a season for the program’s NCAA Division II era with his two scores. Garton, who also had an assist in the game, has 30 points on the campaign.

The Knights improved to 9-4-2 on the season and dominated play from the opening kick. After the whistle started play, senior Jerry Momoh (Trenton, N.J.) made a nice pass to a hustling Garton, who then scored just 15 seconds into the game.

Freshman Curtis Kiyabu (Kapolei, Hawaii) doubled up the St. Andrews lead in the seventh minute. Kiyabu has three goals so far in his rookie season.

The freshmen duo of Chris Parsley (Valrico, Fla.) and Joseph Wells (Edenton, N.C.) scored their first collegiate goals to increase the Knights lead to 4-0 in the first 33 minutes. Junior Thomas Johnson (Washington, D.C.) assisted on Wells goal for his first collegiate point.

Garton added the final goal just 3:51 into the second half as the Hawks (2-15) held kept St. Andrews off the scoreboard for the final 41 minutes.

Junior goaltender Nick Stevens (Kernersville, N.C.) did not need to make a save in the first half to earn his ninth win of the season. Freshmen netminders Chris Dobbins (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and William Williams (Denver, Colo.) each made one save for the Knights in split time during the second half to preserve the shutout.

SAPC out shot Chowan 19-4 and took all 10 of the games corner kicks. The Knights had a dominating 16-0 shot advantage at halftime.

St. Andrews visits Conference Carolinas foe Mount Olive College on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
