GAINESVILLE, Ga.—Freshman forward Brian Humphrey (Jacksonville, N.C.) scored his first two career collegiate goals helping visiting St. Andrews Presbyterian College to a 3-2 victory over host North Georgia College & State University in men’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon at Allen Creek Park.
The Saints, who fall to 0-2 on the early season, grabbed an early lead on a junior Bradley Rose (Weston, Fla.) goal just 9:52 into the contest. North Georgia was able to cling to the one-goal lead for only 12 minutes.
The Knights evened their record to 1-1 by dominating play in their offensive third, finishing with a 29-6 shot advantage. Senior Jerry Momoh (Trenton, N.J.) deadlocked the game at one apiece in the 23rd minute. Momoh picked up a loose ball off a deflection and deposited it into an empty net for his first goal of the season.
The match remained tied until Humphrey scored his first goal in the 71st minute. Freshman Curtis Kiyabu (Kapolei, Hawaii) connected with Humphrey, who then finished off the breakaway. Kiyabu, who also assisted on Momoh’s score, finished with two helpers on the day.
Humphrey extended the Knights lead to 3-1 just seven minutes later with an unassisted blast inside the far post.
North Georgia pulled to within one in the 85th minute when freshman Adam Mercer (Duluth, Ga.) scored on a penalty kick.
Junior goalkeeper Nick Stevens (Kernersville, N.C.) made two saves for SAPC to earn his first win of the season. Senior starting goalie Brandon Kirksey (Brandon, Miss.) had all six saves for the hosts.
St. Andrews entertains Brevard College on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in their home opener.
