Men’s Soccer Ends Season with 2-1 OT Win over Limestone

GAFFNEY, SC—Freshman Jerry Momoh (Trenton, NJ) provided the heroics in Saturday afternoon’s 2-1 double overtime victory at CVAC rival Limestone to give the St. Andrews men’s soccer team a win in their season finale. The Knights snapped a five-game losing streak to end the season at 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the CVAC while the Saints fell to 3-13 and 2-8.

Jesse Nava (Charlotte, NC) gave the Knights an early 1-0 lead 15:51 into the first half with his third goal of the season. Matthew Stucke (Honolulu, HI) assisted on Nava’s goal. Charlie Halstead answered back for Limestone in the 28th minute scoring an unassisted goal.

The game would remain deadlocked at 1-1 until 5:49 left in the second overtime. At 104:11 Momoh tallied his third game-winning goal of the season on a Christopher Hill (Tuscaloosa, AL) pass. Momoh finished the season leading the Knights with seven goals and 14 points.

Freshman goalkeeper Marcus Gumbrecht (Burlington, NC) was rewarded with his first collegiate victory in net making four saves. St. Andrews out shot the Saints 11-5 and had a 12-4 corner kick advantage.
