Men's Soccer News Releases
Mikoczi
Joins SAPC Men’s Soccer Program
January
2004
LAURINBURG,
NC—Junior college transfer
Krisztian Mikoczi has decided to play his final two seasons with
the St. Andrews Presbyterian College men’s soccer team.
Mikoczi
joined the Knights program in January of 2004 and looks to be a great
addition to an improving SAPC squad. Krisztian will bring a wealth
of experience and knowledge to the very young soccer team.
The Budapest,
Hungary native played his first two seasons with the Ulster County
Community College soccer team of New York. In his second season he
was named to the 2003 All-American Team of the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America. Mikoczi, who tallied 14 goals and 11 assists
last year and 31 goals and 39 assists in his collegiate career, was
also named to the All-Region team for Region XV and the Mid-Hudson
Conference All-Conference Team.
The older
Mikoczi, who worked for a couple years after high school, had an
outstanding junior career that included playing for the Under-18
Hungary National Team. After working several jobs Krisztian decided
to come to the U.S. to have fun, get an education, and play soccer.
The forward/center
decided to come to St. Andrews after meeting head coach Tom Frambach.
Krisztian had a good connect with him immediately because of Frambach’s
soccer ties in New York.
Mikoczi
is looking forward to the ’04 season, as he wants to help the
Knights make a big step forward. Frambach is happy with the new addition,
hoping he will bring a wealth of experience to a team that will consist
mostly of sophomores and freshmen.
Krisztian’s
leadership and playing career should help make an immediate impact
for the Knights, helping make the program very strong in the near
future.

Improved
Season Uplifting for Knights Men’s Soccer
LAURINBURG,
NC—After a vastly improved
season in the Fall of 2003, the St. Andrews Presbyterian College
men’s soccer team looks forward to future success.
The Knights
had a lot to prove from a year ago in which they finished 11th in
the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference regular season standings
and missed the playoffs. The other league schools did not give much
concern to this years team, as they were picked ninth in the CVAC
pre-season poll voted upon by the head coaches.
However,
the Knights worked hard and finished the regular season with a 7-12-1
record overall and a surprising 5-4-1 record in the CVAC. The results
included six more wins and a jump of six spots in the conference
standings as they finished in fifth place.
The Knights
increased their scoring output from 18 (2002) to 32 (2003) goals
while decreasing their goals against from 86 (’02) to 50 (’03).
Some game
highlights including a 3-1 win over Francis Marion, who had beaten
the Knight in their last couple of meetings. St. Andrews also defeated
CVAC rivals Barton, Coker, Erskine, Mt. Olive, and Limestone and
went into overtime against eventual league champion Lees-McRae.
Second
year head coach Tom Frambach helped lead the team with a very young
squad that included 13 freshman. Frambach used the season in part
to help teach and develop his young players so that the program will
continue to rise.
Forward
Jon Budney and midfielder Kadian Martin were awarded to the 2nd Team
All-Conference in their freshman campaigns. Budney lead the team
is scoring with 10 goals and 23 points and was awarded a CVAC Player
of the Week during the year. Martin was selected to the prestigious
NSCAA/adidas All-Region Team.
Frambach
reminisced on the season by stating “I was very pleased as
the team fought through the ups and downs of the season. Overall
the team made significant progress as they started to mature and
develop over the year. Hopefully with this past years experience
for the freshman and another solid recruiting class our team will
continue to get better.”
With a
mix of young players, a determined head coach, and a lot of hard
work the sky will be the limit for St. Andrews men’s soccer
in the future.

Martin
and Budney Honored with Post Season Awards
Martin All-Region Player
LAURINBURG,
NC—Kadian Martin and Jon
Budney capped off a 2003 season that provided many highlights
to the St. Andrews men’s soccer program. Martin was selected
to the prestigious NSCAA/adidas All-Region Team while they both
were named to the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference 2nd
Team All-Conference.
The duo
helped lead the Knights to seven wins in their freshman campaign
which was a six-game improvement from 2002. The Knights surprised
many as they finished fifth in the conference regular season (picked
to finish ninth).
Martin,
a native of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, was awarded to the All-Region
team after compiling one goal, four assists, and six points as a
defender. Kadian helped out in all situations and on all parts of
the field. Martin was the first player to be selected to the All-Region
team for the Knights in several years.
Budney,
a Corpus Cristi, Texas product, lead the team in scoring as a determined
freshman forward. Jon’s 10 goals and 23 points were both team
highs. Budney also tallied two game-winning goals and contributed
with three assists during the year. In a week that he scored two
goals, including the game winner against league foe Barton, Budney
was selected the CVAC player of the week.
Martin
and Budney turned a lot of heads in their freshman season, as noticed
by the conference coaches who voted them onto the CVAC All-Conference
team. It should be fun to see where they will lead the Knights in
2004 and beyond.
