In their own words...
"As a first generation Latin American, it was different coming here, but I soon realized that I could just be me. St. Andrews is a school for people who like small classes and a close community."

January 19, 2012
By: Philip Ratchford, Sports Information

Laurinburg, NC- The St. Andrews University Athletic Department has selected Brittany Roberts and Denny Vaughan as the “Knights-of-the-Month”. The honor is representative of the student-athletes’ accomplishments from the previous month, not only on the field, but also in the classroom and on campus.

Senior Brittany Roberts’ efforts on the basketball court and in the classroom have earned her the title of St. Andrews Female Knight of the Month. Roberts currently serves as a team captain of the St. Andrews University women’s basketball team, of which she has been a member for the past four years. On the court, Brittany can be seen shooting from behind the arc or driving to the basket as she puts up points for St. Andrews. Roberts has earned the team high of 151 points this season as a starter in every game the ladies have played. The Concord, NC, native most recently scored a career high of 28 points when the Knights played Mount Olive College. Crashing the boards, she grabs an average of five rebounds per game, giving her the second highest total on the squad, 65. Off the court, Roberts is an education major who is quickly approaching graduation (May 2012). When she is not devoting time to her studies, she is an active member of the St. Andrews Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Denny Vaughan, a St. Andrews heavyweight wrestler, has been selected as the Male Knight of the Month for his outstanding performance on the mats for St. Andrews wrestling. The Dinwiddie, VA, native is in his inaugural season with the Knights. So far, Vaughan has accumulated a 12-8 overall record, including a 4-2 dual meet record. Denny has achieved the second highest number of pins so far this season with four. He has also won six matches by decision and one by major decision. Vaughan’s 23 takedowns show his hard work and his continuous efforts to leave the mat with a victory. Around campus, Denny is active in the St. Andrews Theater Department as well as a member of the SAU Concert Choir.

Please join us in congratulating these two outstanding student-athletes for their personal, scholastic, and athletic achievements. The SAU Athletic Department would like to thank you for all that you do for Knights Athletics and for St. Andrews.
