Conference Carolinas Hosting 'Venture Forward' SAAC Weekend Retreat

September 30, 2011

High Point, NC- Conference Carolinas will be hosting their fourth annual student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) weekend retreat at the US National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC this Friday and Saturday. The “Venture Forward” theme is built around the inspiration that sometimes to venture forward, one must overcome to persevere. The retreat will focus on educating student-athletes in various leadership strategies including building more effective relationships, growth in personal brand management and identity, and enhancing leadership styles and how those styles allow for success through athletics, academics, and other aspects of life.

It is Conference Carolinas’ goal to assist the development of positive leaders throughout the league. This annual SAAC event affords the opportunity for member student-athletes to convene and share experiences. The objective is to not only learn from the different educational sessions but discover and share from one another the different characteristics and varieties of backgrounds each leader brings.

Two student-athletes and one athletics administrator from each member school are invited to participate in the retreat. The charge will be to build upon current methods of leading and to believe that to ‘Venture Forward’, one cannot simply just talk about it!

Some of the highlights of the retreat will include: the DISC Leadership test which will pinpoint different successful individual leadership styles; motivational speaker Beverly Benfield; different team and communication building forums; a guest speaker panel with several professionals in athletics; and adventure activities that will encourage student-athletes to take appropriate risks.

“I believe that all retreat participants will enjoy engaging in the activities that will challenge them mentally and physically, promote personal growth, and encourage effective communication. I look forward to facilitating this retreat and working with all participants that are ready to ‘Venture Forward’ in their life,” stated Conference Carolinas Assistant Commissioner Angela Tressel.
