HIGH POINT, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College’s Matthew Rogers has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas men's field Athlete of the Week during week number five in the 2010 outdoor season.
Senior Matthew Rogers won the men's shot put while also breaking the SAPC school record in both the discus and hammer throws in a very successful day at the Lenoir-Rhyne PowerSox Invitational on Saturday.
Rogers won the shot put with a distance of 13.70 meters, beating 12 other competitors including five other Southeast Region foes.
Rogers added a 37.70m PR heave in the hammer throw to place fourth out of eight entrants. Rogers capped the day in the throwing disciplines with a fifth place showing out of 12 throwers in the discus with a PR toss of 37.83m.
The Eatonton, Ga., native was the top Conference Carolinas finisher in both the shot put and discus.
Rogers and the St. Andrews track & field teams will be next complete in the 2010 Conference Carolinas Championships hosted by Lees-McRae College on Friday & Saturday, April 16-17 in Banner Elk, N.C.
