SAPC Women Take Sixth at Inaugural Conference Championships
Trovato Earns All-Conference in Three Events

BANNER ELK, N.C.—Senior Alyson Trovato (Cedar Park, Texas) won the 1500m Run and finished second in the 5000m and 10,000m runs to lead the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women at the Inaugural Conference Carolinas Track & Field Championships hosted by Lees-McRae College on Friday & Saturday.

Trovato earned First Team All-Conference in the 1500 while claiming Second Team All-Conference in the 5000 and 10000.

Trovato just missed her person record in the 1500m run, winning the event over 20 other entrants with a blazing time of 4:55.98. Trovato was the runner-up in the 5000m run with a speed of 19:08.74 while also taking silver in the10000m run by breaking the 40 minute barrier in her first attempt at the exhausting endurance race with a time of 39:50.09.

St. Andrews only competed in nine events to finish sixth in the team standings. Limestone College won the inaugural conference title by narrowly edging Anderson University. Trovato provided the Lady Knights with 26 of their 30 team points.

Freshman Tiffany Williams (Chesapeake, Va.) and sophomore Tierra Savage (Sanford, N.C.) also scored for SAPC in the 10000m run. The duo crossed the finish line at the same time with Williams (48:42.64) being credited with fifth place and Savage (48:42.86) taking sixth.

Williams also had a top-10 finish in the 5000m run with a time of 23:00.83. Savage and Williams took 10th and 12th in the 1500m run by crossing the finish line in 5:41.07 and 5:51.71, respectively. Sophomore Danielle Martin (Newport, N.C.) set a new PR in the 1500 with a time of 6:14.67 while freshman Rebecca Maye (Knightdale, N.C.) concluded in 6:21.39.

Junior Tyler Lee (Hillsborough, N.C.) competed in a team-high four events for the Lady Knights. Lee scored for St. Andrews in the discus throw with a sixth place throw of 27.81m. Lee added a trio of eighth place finishes in the long jump (3.99m), shot put (9.09m), and hammer throw (23.23m). Lee competed in the long jump for the first time and set a new school record in the process.

Sophomore Amy Tripson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) set new PR’s in her two competitions with a 7.30m heave in the shot put and a 16.70m toss in the javelin throw. Classmate Katy Hutchings (Rockville, Md.) became the first Lady Knight to ever compete in the 100m hurdles and set a benchmark time of 22.01 seconds. Hutchings added a 3.52m leap in the long jump.
