Trovato Posts Two Record Setting Wins at Braves Track & Field Classic

PEMBROKE, N.C.—Senior Alyson Trovato (Cedar Park, Texas) won the women’s 1500 and 3000 to lead the St. Andrews Presbyterian College women’s track & field team at the 2009 Braves Track & Field Classic hosted by UNC Pembroke on Wednesday afternoon at Taylor Track Complex.

Trovato set a new school record in the 1500-meter run with a winning time of 4:54.51. Trovato broke her own record time by three seconds. Trovato also broke the SAPC school record in the 3000m run with a blazing time of 10:42.65 (old record of 11:01.61 by Kelly Chaplin).

Sophomore Tierra Savage (Sanford, N.C.) set benchmark times of 5:43.74 in the 1500 and 12:51.80 in the 3000 in her first track & field competition in a Royal Blue & White uniform. Savage was fifth in the 1500 and sixth in the 3000. Sophomore Danielle Martin (Newport, N.C.) and freshman Rebecca Maye (Knightdale, N.C.) both competed in the 1500 and crossed the finish line together with new person record (PR) times of 6:15.02 and 6:15.86, respectively.

Sophomore Katy Hutchings (Rockville, Md.) improved in the women’s long jump with a new PR distance of 3:91m.

Junior Tyler Lee (Hillsborough, N.C.) competed in three throwing events for the Lady Knights. Lee marked distances of 22.35m in the hammer throw, 22.97m in the discus throw, and 8.59m in the shot put. Lee’s 8.59m heave in the shot put was a new PR. Sophomore Amy Tripson (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added a 6.71m toss in the shot put.

St. Andrews next competes in the Lenoir-Rhyne University PowerSox Invitational at Bears Field in Hickory, N.C. on Saturday, April 11.
