Knights' Arraiz named All-CVAC tennis player

THOMASVILLE, N.C.—Junior Gabriel Arraiz (Caracas, Venezuela) of St. Andrews Presbyterian College was named to the 2007 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference All-CVAC Men’s Tennis team during the CVAC Tennis Banquet at the Conference Tournament Championships co-hosted by Erskine College and the Sumter Palmetto Park Tennis Complex in Sumter, S.C., on Friday evening.

Playing most of his first season at SAPC in the No. 1 singles and doubles position for the Knights; Arraiz won five singles matches and five doubles matches in the spring of ’07. Arraiz had a pair of singles win from the top position against North Greenville University while also picking up wins against Erskine College, Chowan University, and the University of the District of Columbia. Arraiz’ five doubles victories came against Coker College, Erskine, Methodist University, Chowan, and UDC.

The five singles wins and ten total victories were both team-highs for the St. Andrews men’s tennis team this season earning Arraiz a spot on the All-CVAC Honorable Mention list.

The Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference All-CVAC Teams were determined by vote from each Head Coach of participating institutions. Nominations are collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-CVAC First Team, All-CVAC Second Team and Honorable Mention Team. This year’s award winners are as follows:
