SALISBURY, N.C.—St. Andrews Presbyterian College almost pulled out wins at No. 3 and 4 singles, falling in third-set super tie-breakers, as host Catawba College swept the Knights in their season-opener 9-0 in men’s tennis action on Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.
The Tribe swept all three doubles matches and won all but two sets in singles to improve to 7-1 overall. St. Andrews starts 2007 at 0-1.
Junior Andres Centeno (Porto Viejo, Ecuador) just missed giving St. Andrews a point at No. 3, falling late in the tie-breaker (2-6, 7-6, 9-11). Senior Cory Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) also lost in a third-set super tie-breaker (3-6, 6-4, 7-10).
The Knights will next visit North Greenville University (Tigerville, S.C.) on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
