Centeno wins in Knights loss to Limestone

LAURINBURG, NC—Sophomore Andres Centeno (Porto Viejo, Ecuador) earned the only point for host St. Andrews Presbyterian College as Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference foe Limestone College garnered the 8-1 victory on Friday at the Scotland County Tennis Complex.

The Saints improved to 14-9 overall and 5-3 in the CVAC, while the Knights fell to 2-12 and 1-8.

Centeno won at No. 2 singles in straight sets by scores of 6-4, 6-3 for his second victory of the year. Junior Daniel Reuben (Esher, Surray, England) had two hard fought sets at No. 1 but was downed 7-6 (3), 6-2. Limestone only dropped five other games in the final four singles matches winning all four points in straight sets.

Doubles play was much closer as Reuben and junior Cory Fleck (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) lost a tight 9-8 (3) match at No. 2 while Centeno and junior Juan Carlos Arcila (Medellin, Columbia) were edged 9-7 at No. 1 doubles.

St. Andrews will host CVAC rival Coker on Monday at 3:00 p.m.
