Fleck leads Knights tennis to win at North/South duals
March 25, 2006 Chowan Scoresheet WILSON, NC—Junior Cory Fleck (Vancouver, BC, Canada) won two singles matches this past weekend, including the decisive fifth point in St. Andrews’ 5-4 victory over Chowan on Friday night. Brevard (7-2) and North Greenville (8-0) took the final two matches from the Knights on Saturday at the North/South dual matches hosted by Barton College. The Knights, who are 2-8 after this weekends play, will make a long trek into South Carolina next weekend for a pair of CVAC contests. SAPC will face host Anderson University (Anderson, SC) on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and visit Erskine College (Due West, SC) on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. St. Andrews 5, Chowan 4 (at Barton)
Burgos and Perlmutter teamed up for an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles to give SAPC its first point of the match. No. 1 duo of junior Juan Carlos Arcila (Medellin, Columbia) and sophomore Andres Centeno (Porto Viejo, Ecuador) and No. 2 pair of Reuben and Fleck both lost close doubles matches of 8-6 and 9-7, respectively. Singles Doubles Brevard 7, St. Andrews 2 (at Recreation Park) Fleck won the only singles match for the Knights in Saturday mornings 7-2 loss to NAIA Brevard College. Fleck won at No. 4 singles in a hard fought battle 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 10-2. Reuben won his first set before falling at No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. Reuben and Fleck recorded St. Andrews’ other point at No. 2 doubles with an 8-5 win. Burgos and Perlmutter just missed at No. 3 (9-7). Singles Doubles North Greenville 8, St. Andrews 0 (at Fike High School) The Knights, who were in the hole to start Saturday’s finale because of injury that caused forfeit points to North Greenville at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, fell 8-0. Reuben once again won his first set before falling at No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-1, 10-8. Reuben and Fleck had the best showing in doubles with a 8-5 defeat. Singles #1 Kirstuckas/Danivsevicius (NGC) def. With the match tied 4-4, Fleck ran away with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles to claim the second victory of the season for St. Andrews, a 5-4 win against Chowan. No. 1 junior Daniel Reuben (Esher, Surray, England) won 6-0, 6-3; No. 5 sophomore Juan Pablo Burgos (Guayaquil, Ecuador) rolled 6-0, 6-0; and No. 6 freshman Sam Perlmutter (Jacksonville, FL) garnered his first collegiate dual match win 6-0, 6-1.
