Knights' netters earn first win, 5-4, over Belmont Abbey
February 27, 2006 ScoresheetLAURINBURG, NC—Junior Daniel Reuben (Esher, Surrey, England) recorded points in both singles and doubles for host St. Andrews Presbyterian College, lifting the Knights to a 5-4 Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference victory over Belmont Abbey on Monday at the Scotland County Tennis Complex. St. Andrews improved to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the CVAC. The Crusaders fell to 0-7 and 0-3. Reuben and Cory Fleck provided the Knights with their only doubles point, winning at No. 2 doubles 8-4. Crusaders No. 1 doubles team of Aaron Miller and James Whitman won 8-3 while the No. 3 pair of Dirk Jansson and Peter Giordano gave The Abbey a 2-1 lead after doubles by winning 8-4. Reuben picked up his second point with a hard fought comeback at No. 1 singles. Reuben overcame a first set loss to Miller to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Knights No. 2 Andres Centeno defeated Whitman 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) and No. 3 Ron Bryant slipped past Adam Gault 2-6, 6-4, 6-2. Juan Carlos Arcila clinched the fifth point with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Giordano at No. 4. No. 5 Crusader Enrique Gonzalez slipped past Fleck 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 while Jansson took the sixth singles match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Sam Perlmutter.
