Men's Lacrosse Coaching Staff

Michael Lawson
Head Coach

Michael Lawson enters his fourth season as the head coach for the men’s lacrosse program, after joining the St. Andrews athletic staff in August of 2004.

Last year, Lawson guided the Knights to their most successful regular season setting a new record for wins in a season. The 12 victories in 2007 under Lawson are the most wins in the program’s 12-year history in NCAA Division II men’s lacrosse. In the clubs first year in the CVAC (now named Conference Carolinas); Lawson boasted a 4-1 record in league games and led the Knights to a trip to the conference tournament finals that St. Andrews and Lawson hosted. The ‘07 Knights finished the season ranked No. 9 nationally and were the NCAA D-II statistical champion in goals per game.

Lawson was recognized for all of his accomplishments by being named the 2007 CVAC Coach of the Year.

In 2006, Lawson led the Knights to a share of the Deep South Conference regular season title and a No. 1 seed in the conference’s tournament. St. Andrews posted an 8-7 overall record and 7-2 league ledger and a 14-goal victory in the first round of the DSC Tournament.

In his first season at St. Andrews, Lawson coached the Knights to a 5-11 record. Eight of the Knights 11 losses in 2005 were against teams that were ranked in the top-10 nationally as some point during the season. Lawson coached SAPC to a winning 4-3 record in the Deep South Conference and the No. 4 seed in the DSC Tournament. Lawson led the Knights to an eight-goal victory in the first round of the tourney.

Lawson has coached three USILA All-Americans, 17 All-Conference players, 10 Conference Players of the Week, the 2007 CVAC Player of the Year, and the 2006 DSC Freshman of the Year in his three seasons at St. Andrews. Lawson was also instrumental in building a new locker room for the Knights lacrosse program.

Prior to jumping on board with the Knights athletic department, Lawson spent the 2004 season as the offensive coordinator for the men's lacrosse team at Anne Arundel Community College. Before his time at AACC, Lawson started the Howard Community College men's lacrosse team and built the program into a top-five ranked team in his four years at the college. In 2001 Lawson was named the Region XX Coach of the Year at Howard.

In addition to his coaching duties, Lawson taught at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools for four years. Lawson has also volunteered as a coach in numerous lacrosse camps and clinics for the past 10 years.
