Osterritter named STX/USILA All-American

May 31, 2006

LAURINBURG, NC—Freshman defender John Osterritter (Arnold, Md.) of St. Andrews Presbyterian College was announced as a STX/USILA NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention list honoree at Sunday’s All-American Brunch in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“John was as impressive as any defenseman we saw and he was able to play at that level all year,” said second year St. Andrews Head Coach Michael Lawson. “We expect a lot from him but he found his groove early and has exceeded our expectations.”

Osterritter jumped right into the starting lineup as a freshman for the Knights playing in and starting all 16 games for SAPC in his rookie campaign. Osterritter also posted three goals, one assist, and 33 ground balls in 2006.

Osterritter helped anchor a Knights defense that lowered its goals against average by almost five goals from 2005. St. Andrews dropped its goals against average from 14.63 to 9.69 in just one year thanks in part to Osterritter’s tenacity on ‘D’.

St. Andrews improved its win total by three games in ’06 and posted an impressive 7-2 ledger in the Deep South Conference, which was good for a four-way tie for first in the conference standings and the eventual No. 1 seed in the DSC Tournament.
