No. 4 Limestone spoils No. 1 Knights run in DSC semis

CHARLOTTE, NC—Limestone College men’s lacrosse team punched its ticket for the Deep South Conference finals, defeating St. Andrews Presbyterian College 12-9 in the first of two semifinal games Friday night at American Legion Memorial Stadium.

With the victory, Limestone improved to 10-5 overall while St. Andrews fell to 8-7 overall. The Saints will play the winner of the Wingate-Queens game Sunday at 2 p.m. in the DSC championship game.

Two players had three goals each for Limestone. Senior attack man Pat Beall (Mt. Airy, MD) and freshman midfielder Greg Kacinko (Alpharetta, GA) both recorded a hat trick in the Saints’ victory. St. Andrews junior attack man Zach Mryncza (Baltimore, MD) had three goals to lead the Knights’ offense.

St. Andrews built an early 4-1 lead. Knights’ junior midfielder Tony Ferreira (Youngsville, NC) scored an unassisted goal with 13:02 to go in the second quarter to put St. Andrews up by three.

Limestone answered with five unanswered goals to take the lead for good at 6-4. Beall had two goals during the Saints’ crucial 5-0 run. Kacinko added one tally during the flurry.

St. Andrews had its chances, as the Knights out shot Limestone 35-27. The Knights made a late 3-0 run to cut a 10-6 deficit to a 10-9 margin. SAPC senior midfielder Pat Fitzgerald (Baltimore, MD) tallied a goal with 8:32 remaining in the fourth quarter, concluding the 3-0 run and cutting the Limestone lead to one.

Saints junior goalkeeper Marty Ward (Syracuse, NY) had 12 saves for the victors. Knights’ freshman goalkeeper Nate Hull (Millersville, MD) recorded eight saves. Both Ward and Hull played 60 minutes.

Ferreira led SAPC with two goals and two assists while Mryncza carded a hat trick. Junior Drew Howell (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada) finished with a goal and a helper while junior Dan Hartzell (Lacombe, Alberta, Canada) and freshman John Osterritter (Arnold, MD) each tallied one goal.

St. Andrews will visit NCAA Division I Bellarmine University on Saturday, April 29 in Louisville, Kentucky.
