Five Knights named DSC All-Conference
Nate Hull named DSC Freshman of the Year

ROCK HILL, SC—St. Andrews Presbyterian College led the Deep South Conference postseason awards with five Knights being selected to the All-DSC First or Second Team while Nate Hull was named the DSC Freshman of the Year.

Mars Hill College sophomore attack man Andrew Chapman, who led the Deep South Conference in goals and points per game and helped lead the Lions to their best record in school history, was named the Deep South Conference Player of the Year, the league announced today.      

St. Andrews Presbyterian College rookie goalie Nate Hull, who had a 9.29 goals against average and a .543 save percentage, was named Freshman of the Year.

Belmont Abbey College head coach Rob Horrigan, who guided the Crusaders to a sixth-place finish with four conference wins in the team’s first season, was named Coach of the Year.

Chapman was one of four Lions to be named All-Conference. Goalie Matt Holthaus joined Chapman on the First Team.

St. Andrews, the top seed for the DSC Tournament, led the way with five All-Conference selections, including four on the First Team – Zach Mryncza at attack, Dan Hartzell and Pat Fitzgerald at midfield and John Osterritter on defense. Midfielder Tony Ferreira was named to the DSC Second Team.

Limestone College also had four All-Conference members, with midfielder Brad Patridge honored on the First Team.

Queens University of Charlotte had three All-Conference picks, all on the First Team. The Royals’ selections were Alex Tack at attack, Dave Overberg at midfield and Pat Halsch at defender.

Wingate University also placed four on the All-Conference squad, with mifielder Bryan Safarik and defender Michael Watson both making First Team.

Belmont Abbey had a pair of Second Team All-Conference selections, while Catawba had one.

The Deep South Conference Tournament begins today with four quarterfinal games. Pfeiffer is at top seed St. Andrews, while second seed Wingate hosts Catawba. Third seed Queens hosts Belmont Abbey, while fourth seed Limestone hosts Mars Hill.

The Deep South Conference Tournament semifinals will be played Friday at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, N.C. The winner of the Pfeiffer/St. Andrews game will face the Limestone/Mars Hill winner at 5 p.m. The Catawba/Wingate winner and Belmont Abbey/Queens winner will square off at 8 p.m.

The championship game is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday at Memorial Stadium.

Tickets to the DSC Tournament are $5 for adults, and $2 for students and children.
