Laurinburg, N.C. – The Knights (6-8) found themselves in an all out battle Friday afternoon, as they welcomed their opponents from Rollins College (2-9) to test their skills against one another in some classic Lacrosse action. It was an absolute battle the whole contest as both teams countered each other’s offensive attempts with their own defensive strategies, making the atmosphere a game of physical chess, with St. Andrews proving to be the Bobby Fisher of the match.
Rollins made the first move as they came out and controlled the first quarter edging out the Knights 2-1. St. Andrews responded in the second by holding Rollins to only one goal while scoring two of their own knotting up the score at 3-3 going into the half. Rollins answered back in the third with swarming defense, which did not allow the Knights to get anything going offensively, while scoring a goal of their own putting them ahead 4-3 going into the final fifteen minutes of the contest. The fourth quarter proved to be similar to a shootout from the old west, as both teams found the net time and time again with each goal becoming more important than the last. As the quarter came to a close, Rollins managed to net two goals as St. Andrews scored three times leaving the game in a 6-6 tie forcing overtime between the two teams. As the Knights took to the field they had a certain demeanor of confidence, which proved to bode well as Senior Steve Tramonte (Coral Springs, FL) muscled his way thru the defense to net the game winning goal for the Knights by a score of 7-6.
Leading the way for the Knights were Chris Michela (Oak Hill, VA) and Cameron Walsh (Farmingville, NY) who both found the net twice, while Michela (Oak Hill, VA) also picked up an assist on the day. Ryan Konig (Ellicott City, MD), Michael Thomas (Churchill, MD), and Steve Tramonte (Coral Springs, FL) put together the rest of the Knights offense as they added one goal each respectively. St. Andrews takes the field again on Tuesday as they host fellow Conference Carolinas members Queens University with the game starting at 4 p.m.
