Misenheimer, N.C . – The Knights of St. Andrews, (4-5, 0-1) took to the field Saturday afternoon to try to keep the strive for five consecutive wins alive against conference foe Pfeiffer University, (6-1, 1-1). However they were met by a very solid Pfeiffer team who had other plans for the Knights.
The Falcons came out with a swarming defense that gave St. Andrews problems and limited their scoring opportunities, while Pfeiffer was finding the net early and often scoring the first four goals of the game. With just twenty six seconds left in the first quarter Freshman Alex Tindall; (Edmonds, WA) would score his first of three goals making it a 4-1 Pfeiffer advantage going into the second. The second quarter played out similar to the first as the Falcons put three goals on the board while the St. Andrews offense seem to start clicking later when Tindall again scored and Freshman Nick Hund, (Snohomish, WA) added another making the score 7-3 at the half.
The Third quarter proved to be a pivotal one as the Falcons exploded offensively. Pfeiffer came out firing on all cylinders while they scored two times in the first three minutes. Senior Steve Tramonte, (Coral Springs, FL) answered back with a goal of his own then the Falcons went on to score four more times in the quarter leaving the Knights down 13-4 after three. The fourth quarter St. Andrews answered first with a goal by Sophomore Daniel Shields, (Mercer Island, WA) making the score 13-5. The Falcons then applied more defensive pressure and hustle late as they piled up a game total thirty seven groundballs to the Knights fifteen. That pressure allowed Pfeiffer to put more points on the board as they went on to score four straight in less than a three minute span. St. Andrews struck back with a run themselves scoring three times in the final minutes of the game but it proved too little to late as they were handed a 17-8 loss.
Scoring for the Knights were Alex Tindall with three goals, Nick Hund and Daniel Shields with two each, and Steve Tramonte adding one goal as well. The Knights take to the field next when they travel to Lenoir Rhyne University on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
