Box Score

Laurinburg N.C. – The Knights of St. Andrews (4-4) took to the field Thursday afternoon to try to extend their three game winning streak to four as they faced off against visiting Dominican College, (2-2). Not only did the Knights have to deal with the superb all around play of Dominican, they were also battling a terrible rain storm which just would not seem to clear up.

The match was a slugfest from the very beginning with both teams getting good looks to score and delivering bone-crushing hits to each other as well. After the first thirty minutes the Knights found themselves at a 5-3 deficit going into the half.

As the second half was set to begin, the sky started to clear and St. Andrews came onto the field very determined to be the aggressors and that is exactly what they did. Defensively they held Dominican to only four shot attempts and one goal in the third quarter, while they were in the zone with twelve shot attempts and a staggering six goals. At the end of the third the Knights had taken the lead by the score of 9-6.

The fourth quarter then began and St. Andrews was firing on all cylinders. The Knights continued to win face-offs, move the ball efficiently, and snatch almost every groundball while also putting more goals on the board, scoring three more in the final period. St. Andrews went on to win the game 12-8. The Knights played a solid team game spreading the ball around and making the extra pass. Freshman Cameron Walsh, (Farmingville, NY) Sophomore Daniel Shields, (Mercer Island, WA) Junior Chris Michela, (Oak Hill, VA) and Freshman Alex Tindall (Edmonds, WA) led the Knights by all netting two goals each. Freshman Nick Hund, (Snohomish, WA) Senior Steve Tramonte, (Coral Springs, FL) Senior Michael Thomas, (Churchill, MD) and Freshman Ryan Konig, (Ellicott City, MD) rounded out the rest of the Knights scoring will one goal each respectively.

Defensively Sophomore Goalkeeper Kyle Davitt, (Shoreview, MN) had another solid performance with twelve saves, and Junior Stephen Murphy, (Ossining, NY) showed tremendous hustle by acquiring ten groundballs and winning 14 faceoffs. St. Andrews hopes to continue in their winning ways when they play away on Saturday against Conference Carolinas rivals Pfeiffer University at 2 p.m.
